Heat oven to 350°.
Mix the apples with the 3 ingredients below:
- 4 cups sliced, pared, cored apples (about 6 medium)
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp. cinnamon or apple pie spice
- opt. – 1 tbsp. instant clear jel
Place apples in a buttered 8”x8” square pan.
Blend the ingredients below until crumbly and sprinkle on top.
- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
- ½ cup flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 1/3 cup melted butter
Bake 30-35 minutes until topping is golden brown.
Serve warm with ice cream or hard sauce if desired.
Beat ½ cup soft butter at high speed until very creamy.
Gradually beat in 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar.
Stir in ½ tsp. vanilla.
Chill for about 1 hour.
Makes ¾ cup.
